Netflix limited series Apple Cider Vinegar tells the true story of Australian scammer Belle Gibson - but what happened to her partner Clive Rothwell?

According to People, Chanelle is possibly an amalgam of two people: Jess Ainscough’s manager, and another Australian influencer, Chanelle McAuliffe. The real-life McAuliffe was one of the first people in Belle’s inner circle to blow the whistle on her.

The is billed as a “true-ish story based on a lie" and is inspired by a 2017 book, “The Woman Who Fooled the World,” by two investigative journalists, Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano, who explored Gibson’s deception.

“This is a true story based on a lie,” are the first words you hear in each episode of Netflix’s new limited series Apple Cider Vinegar. The lie is one told by Belle Gibson, a real-life Australian wellness influencer who built an empire in the 2010s based on the fib that she had cured her terminal brain cancer with healthy eating.

In the series the character of Clive is a big part of Belle's life. We first meet Clive, played by Ashley Zukerman, in episode two of the series. Clive and Belle quickly begin a romantic relationship and he helps her move out of her flat with Nathan.
