Wildfire season is upon us, and smoke is reducing air quality through swaths of the country. Environment Canada suggests people check the Air Quality Health Index daily to determine how much time to spend outside.

Parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are under an air quality warning on Monday alongside an ongoing heat warning in the region, Environment Canada says.

Toronto and the GTA are under a heat wave and poor air quality warning issued by Environment Canada on July 14, 2025, due to wildfire smoke from northern Ontario. The poor air quality is expected to persist from Monday into Tuesday.

Minnesotans across the state are impacted by poor air quality from wildfires in Canada. FOX 9's Leon Purvis has more.

The Air Quality Health Index is expected to be as high as seven, or high risk, according to Environment Canada.

Unhealthy air quality is forecast, with periods of Very Unhealthy air quality possible for several hours. Folks should expect to see and smell smoke, and Air Quality Alerts are in effect. Conditions will improve slightly tonight through Sunday.

An air quality alert for northwest Minnesota has been extended to cover the entire state and run through Monday.

The lawmakers said successive years of wildfires in Canada have undermined air quality in their states and robbed Americans of their ability to enjoy the summer
