Aircraft sent back to US illustrate how trade war has disrupted goods flows between world’s two biggest economies

A dozen Democrat-led states sued the Trump administration to stop its tariff policy saying it's unlawful and has brought chaos to the economy. The lawsuit challenges the president's authority to issue tariffs without going through Congress.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said Wednesday that he doesn’t expect the U.S. trade war with China to deter the company from its financial recovery and aircraft delivery targets even though Chinese airlines are refusing to accept the company’s planes.

China called for all "unilateral" U.S. tariffs to be cancelled on Thursday, as signs emerged that the Trump administration may de-escalate its trade war with Beijing. China also clarified it has not held trade talks with Washington despite repeated comments from the U.

President Trump said that “we’re meeting with China” on tariffs, comments aimed at soothing jittery financial markets. But Chinese officials say no talks have taken place.
