States are warning that they won't be able to provide food assistance on Nov. 1 unless a deal to reopen the government is reached.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - As the government shutdown stretches into its 25th day, food banks across the Bay Area are bracing for a surge in need if federal food assistance runs out next month.

The Louisiana House unanimously passed a resolution Oct. 24 directing the state health department to step in and fund food stamps through November while the federal government is shut down. It heads to the Senate next.
