Texas couple stuck in Jamaica as Category 5 Hurricane Melissa approaches
Catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Melissa is rapidly approaching Jamaica, causing island-wide supply shortages and stranding tourists, with dangerous conditions also expected for parts of Cuba.
Texas newlyweds Kasydee and Hunter Bishop are trapped near Montego Bay, Jamaica, as Hurricane Melissa approaches as a Category 5 storm with 175 mph winds.
On Friday, Oct. 24, Hannah Grubbs shared a TikTok of her and a fellow traveler walking in the airport. In overlaying text, she wrote, "Us on our way to Jamaica during a hurricane," referencing the Category 5 storm expected to hit the island on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
“Melissa is expected to reach Jamaica and southeastern Cuba as an extremely dangerous major hurricane, and it will still be at hurricane strength when it moves across the southeastern Bahamas” on Wednesday, the hurricane center said in its 5 a.m. advisory.

Melissa tore through the Caribbean as one of the most powerful storms in history, slamming Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane earlier this week.
The storm has left 60 percent of Jamaica without electricity and some areas with up to 90 percent of roofs gone.
