A former contractor for the Alabama Department of Human Resources has been charged after a 3-year-old boy, who was in the state's custody, died in a hot car last month.

Kela Stanford was booked in Jefferson County Friday morning. She posted bond and has been released, pending a court date.

Ke'Torrius Starkes Jr., 3, died after being left in a hot car for five hours in Birmingham, Ala. An Alabama woman was taken into custody following the death of a 3-year-old boy who police say was "forgotten" in a hot car for five hours, leading to his July 22 death.
