Firefighters reported some progress fighting the wildfires that have charred hillsides, homes and streets in Los Angeles County, but the strong winds that fanned the flames were expected to pick up again on Friday,

The wildfires that destroyed homes in multiple sections of the Los Angeles area will test California’s efforts to stabilize the state’s insurance marketplace after many insurers stopped issuing residential policies due to the high fire risk.

A rapidly growing wildfire has engulfed the state of California, including the upscale areas of Los Angeles, on Jan 7. The raging fire destroyed 2,921 acres of the Pacific Palisades area between the coastal towns of Santa Monica and Malibu.
