Meta will block Australian users under 16 from accessing Instagram, Facebook and Threads by December 10 to comply with the country’s sweeping social media ban for teenagers, the company said on Thursday.
Meta scored a major win on Tuesday after a federal judge ruled that it is not a social networking monopoly, shooting down an argument from the US Federal Trade Commission that it should be forced to spin off two of its most popular platforms.
A privacy policy change scheduled for Dec. 16 has been misinterpreted by some to mean that Meta will be poking around your Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp DMs.
Meta is introducing a new Content Protection tool on Facebook that alerts creators when their videos are copied and lets them block or claim those reposts. The update aims to reduce unoriginal content and give creators more control over what happens to their work.
