Pakistan and India on Wednesday exchanged lists of nuclear facilities as well as civilian prisoners, including fishermen, according to official statements from both countries. A statement from Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said the two South Asian nuclear neighbors exchanged lists of nuclear installations and facilities.

This annual exchange comes against the backdrop of strained ties between the two nations over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism.

India on Wednesday urged Pakistan to expedite the release and repatriation of 183 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners in view of completion of their jail terms. In addition, Pakistan has been asked to provide immediate consular access to the 18 civilian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan's custody,

India and Pakistan exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen under the 2008 Consular Access Agreement. India has urged Pakistan to expedite the release of 183 Indians who have completed their sentences.

As per a treaty signed in 1988, India and Pakistan have exchanged the list of nuclear facilities. The exchange of lists is conducted every year.

The exchange of the list took place simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad under the provisions of the agreement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

New Delhi specifically requested Islamabad to ensure the safety, security and welfare of all Indian and believed-to-be-Indian civilian prisoners and fishermen

The Government of India has called for the immediate release and repatriation of these prisoners and fishermen, along with their boats. Additionally, India has urged Pakistan to expedite the repatriation of 183 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners who have already completed their sentences.
