In a 9 a.m. update, Xcel Energy said that 97% of outages across Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota have been restored.

Powerful winds from back-to-back storms on Sunday night and Monday night knocked out the lights and air conditioning inside about 300,000 homes across the Midwest.

Xcel Energy reported more than 2,500 power outages in and around the Twin Cities on Tuesday morning, impacting more than 71,000 residents, following powerful Monday night thunderstorms that downed branches across the state.
