Collins discovered the reason for his drumming difficulties while drumming on the 2007 reunion tour for his band, Genesis, was a dislocated vertebra in his neck. As he recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone, the injury resulted in nerve damage in his hands.
Collins’ health has been the subject of much speculation ever since the singer-drummer retired from performing in 2016, though he did come out of retirement for the Not Dead Yet solo tour in 2017, and a final tour with Genesis in 2020. For those treks, Collins served only as a singer with his son Nic taking over on drums.
