Furyk is the first U.S. vice captain on this squad that brings prior Ryder Cup leadership experience to the table

Jim Furyk, 54, has been named a vice captain for the U.S. Ryder Cup team; the competition will be held Sept. 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, looking for leadership and experience, named Jim Furyk a vice captain on Wednesday for his team that will try to reclaim the trophy from Europe this year at Bethpage Black in New York.

The 54-year-old represented the U.S. in nine consecutive Ryder Cups (1997, ‘99, 2002, ‘04, ‘06, ‘08, ‘10, ‘12, 14).

Bradley is the youngest captain in 62 years. He’s won tournaments each of the past three years. He made it to the Tour Championship and played on a winning Presidents Cup team just four months ago. He hasn’t finished worse than 21st at an event since August and ranks No. 11 in OWGR.
