The prime minister has addressed the nation after the government announced an inquiry into state failings to prevent the Southport attack.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday that the Southport knife attack last July was a sign that the country faces a new type of terrorism threat in the form of extreme violence perpetrated by loners.

Nigel Farage repeated claims of a "cover up" over the Southport killings after Sir Keir Starmer addressed the nation this morning. The Prime Minister said he knew attacker Axel Rudakubana had previously been referred to the Prevent counter-extremism programme but that the information was not made public due to fears it could prejudice a potential trial.
