Major League Baseball trade deadline proved to be fruitful for the New York Mets. Though the Mets didn't wind up acquiring any 2024 All-Stars, one rental piece that they brought in played a solid role as an extra left-handed bat.

Alonso came up to the Major Leagues with the Mets in 2019 and won the NL Rookie of the Year award after hitting 53 home runs. The four-time All-Star hit just .240 last year, but also hit 34 home runs, drove in 88 runs, reached base at a .329 clip and slugged .459 with a 123 OPS+.

One of the clear improvements that the Blue Jays needed to make this offseason involved reshaping their bullpen. That group underperformed greatly in 2024, and retooling the unit was an immediate priority.
