According to a recent report from USA Today insider Bob Nightengale, the D-backs have suddenly and unexpectedly entered the equation for former Red Sox and Astros All-Star Alex Bregman — a player Arizona had not been previously linked to.

The Red Sox were reportedly in the market for slugger Pete Alonso, but they lost out on him to the rival Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore was able to land Alonso on a $155 million deal, and the Red Sox haven’t been able to add the star they need.

The Red Sox have “expressed interest” in Houston Astros third baseman/first baseman Isaac Paredes, according to a report.
