Several top U.S. officials are in Israel to shore up the Gaza ceasefire and attempt to bring about a permanent end to the war. They acknowledge the next phase poses serious challenges.
As the delicate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas takes hold, some aid has begun flowing into the Gaza Strip, where many Palestinians are returning home and beginning to reckon with the destruction caused by the two-year conflict.
An Israeli security official said the transfer of aid into the territory is halted "until further notice," the first major test of the ceasefire.
No names were immediately released. The bodies were in Israel and were being taken to the country’s National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Israel said it had resumed a truce with Hamas in Gaza after heavy fighting over the weekend, with the sides accusing each other of breaching a deal brokered by US President Donald Trump.
