The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear Enbridge's bid to change the venue of Michigan's lawsuit seeking to force the Canadian pipeline operator to stop operating a pipeline underneath the Straits of Mackinac,

Last year, a court of appeals ruled that Enbridge’s request to move the case to federal court came too late in the process, a decision that the company disagrees with. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case sometime after their next term begins in October. A ruling could come any time after that, as late as June 2026.

Enbridge's dispute with the state of Michigan over the Line 5 oil pipeline is headed to the US Supreme Court, which will decide whether the case belongs in federal court or state court.
