Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, a former Army Staff Sergeant, had a distinguished military career from 2007 to 2020, serving as an IT and Human Resources Specialist with deployments in Afghanistan.
Jabbar appears to have rented the truck he used in the New Year's attack, a Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck, on the car rental website Turo, which lets owners rent their vehicles to other people.
