Unionized baristas will begin voting Friday on whether to authorize a strike amid stalled contract negotiations, Starbucks Workers United said.

The union representing educators in the Minneapolis Public School District says its members have overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike. After three days of voting, 92% of members of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) who cast ballots voted to authorize a strike as they push for higher pay and smaller class sizes.

In an open letter to The Broadway League, shared Oct. 1, Local 802 AFM called for a guarantee of "fair wages that reflect Broadway's success," "stable health coverage," "no change to attendance requirement," "employment and income security," and preservation of "in-house contractors."
