Mumbai, Jan 28: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday demanded a credible investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court into the tragic plane crash that killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Baramati earlier the same morning.

At least eight people were killed and several others were reported missing in a massive fire that engulfed two adjoining warehouses in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, police said Tuesday. The Times of India reported today (Wednesday, January 8) that earlier this month, five healthcare workers in West Bengal were infected with the Nipah virus, with one reported to be in critical condition. Around 110 people who had contact with these patients have been quarantined.

Only two Nipah Virus cases reported in West Bengal since December 2025, with all traced contacts testing negative.
