Snagging season for kokanee salmon opened Friday morning at Heron Lake, attracting dozens of anglers ready to brave cold northern New Mexico temperatures in their quest of tasty fish. Kokanee are landlocked sockeye salmon that attempt to spawn in the lake every winter and then die.
